Coudersport Volunteer emergency services personnel responded to a call for an “odor investigation” at the Potter County Jail this morning just before 6:00 a.m. Arriving firefighters confirmed a strong smell of natural gas and inmates housed on the second floor were moved to a secure area on the first floor according to pre-determined evacuation plans. Third shift guards were detained to assist some 18 other law enforcement personnel from state police, borough police and the sheriff’s departments in maintaining security.  The Coudersport volunteer ambulance crew responded along with staff from Potter County EMA, and the Roulette Volunteer Fire Department. Star Hose volunteers from Port Allegany stood by at the Roulette station under the mutual aid system. PPL Gas Utilities was notified. The situation was brought under control at 7:15 a.m. and was turned over to the warden as a maintenance issue according to Coudersport First Assistant Chief Bryan Phelps. All units were back in service a half hour later. There are currently 36 inmates residing in the jail and a contingency plan was in place for a secure evacuation if required.  There were no injuries.

Allegheny Mountain Radio Network

For 55 years, it's been a part of the fabric of the lives of tens of thousands of folks along the Twin Tiers.  What are we talking about?  WFRM, of course.  The visit of Britain's Queen Elizabeth several years ago reminds us that WFRM began the day of her coronation many years ago.

At this moment, hundreds of drivers on Route 6, or 44, or 49, or 449, or 144, or 120 are listening to WFRM on their car radios.  They can't read a newspaper or watch TV.  95% of drivers are listening to the radio.
